The Cartoon Lion
There's a Season for everything under the Sun, including the time to find the kid within us. In Scorpio fashion, the timing is perfect to look within. Reviewing the first 12 years of life is great for learning the different zodiac signs and a 'feel' for them. Heres how the we march around the wheel during the first 12 years of life.
Aries - 1st Year
During the first year of life, children are totally unconscious of their capacities or dependencies. They move instinctively with the pioneering spirit to prove to themselves that they are separate beings. Their separateness becomes apparent to them as they take their first step away from total dependency around the end of the first year.
Taurus - 2nd Year
At age two, children become conscious of things and objects. They learn to feed themselves as part of their training in becoming self-reliant. They learn to distinguish between what is theirs and what is not. By the end of the 2nd year they learn to appreciate, especially as they realize their birthday gifts belong to them.
Gemini - 3rd Year
At age three, they learn to talk in sentences and begin to relate to the neighborhood outside their homes, playing with others and expressing much curiosity about the outside world. Children are psychologically prepared to begin practicing basic learning skills.
Cancer - 4th Year
At age four security needs become imperative as children find themselves further and further outside their home base. They want to help 'Mommy and Daddy', identifying with their strength and capacity and needing their support and encouragement. This critical year establishes the foundation from which the following eight or eighty are built.
Leo - 5th Year
The ego develops rapidly at age five, with the previous years security behind them. Children go to school and learn to be proud of what they do. They play creative games or dress up in Mommies clothes. In short, they begin to see and express themselves as real individuals.
Virgo - 6th Year
Most childhood illnesses are said to occur at age six. Basic techniques and skills for the application of knowledge are developed in first grade. The development of these techniques makes children aware of their potential as human beings, but often also leads to excessive self-criticism or even physical illnesses. For the first time, children find out what it is like to have to apply mental effort.
Libra - 7th Year
Meaningful, personal relationships and competitive team-type activities are formed this year. Brownies and Cub Scouts become important as children learn to share and thereby develop their identities primarily through these types of experiences.
Scorpio - 8th Year
At age eight children become aware of their own sexuality, engaging intensely in activities which express their sex. Yet children may repress feelings about the opposite sex and exhibit sudden extreme modesty. Girls hate boys and boys hate girls, but both have deeper questions and curiosity about the other sex, even though they may keep them secret. This introduces an age where children are capable of accepting more responsibilities.
Sagittarius - 9th Year
At age nine children become aware of their ideals and principles concerning justice and fair treatment of others. Religious experiences are often important during this year of life. Children need to spread out, have more freedom and independence depending of course on the way in which they handled responsibility the previous year. Team sports are important, so is language- and there is lots of it -profane and other wise.
Capricorn - 10th Year
At age ten the childs image becomes all-important and they identify with public figures. Social ambitions and goals develop as a result. There begins to be some consistency of effort because of the realization that effort brings recognition from elders. There is still a lack of maturity in evaluating their goals, but they are in touch with their time, sometimes to the extent of being 'clannish'. They are social climbers, beginning to form clubs and other idol-oriented groups.
Aquarius - 11th Year
Unable to take on the responsibilities that went with the images of the previous year children re-evaulate their feelings about prestige and position. There is more genuine group relatedness concerned with group ideals and an emerging sense of individuality which often develops into nonconformance.
Pisces - 12th Year
Too old to be a chld and too young to be an adult, the twelve year olds are in limbo. They have developed skills, group performance and felt autonomy, but they need guidance toward their futures, which seem still vague. Their parents never seem to offer it at the right time or level, but say, "act your age". "How does my age act? What can I do? Where am I?" Forced to adjust to contradictory values, they are still unable to define their own. They are aware of younger childrens' shortcomings and older chldrens' indifferences, including the indifference of the adult world. Concern with their place in the scheme of things is the prime importance. Many bad habits can start here as projections of their insecurity or desire to escape, such as smoking, over-eating or nail-biting. Fantasizing can be another release or level of escapism. Often a deep religious and/or mystical experience happens. Service performed by groups, such as the scouts, stimulates an awareness of the needs of others and involvement in the community is sought. Group service, or community activity helps them to get out of themselves and their inner feelings of inadequacy and fear, helping them to know their own inner selves in a much deeper way.
